The Andrew Young Foundation

Program Highlights and Achievements 2010

This had been the most successful and productive year for growth and development for the Andrew Young Foundation since its inception in 2003. The many achievements and successes are due, in part, to the extraordinary partnerships the Foundation has forged with friends, contributors, supporters and volunteers.
Ambassador Young established the Andrew Young Foundation to advance his vision of equality, justice and peace for “all of God’s children.” The Foundation has documented important milestones in the history of the civil rights movement, City of Atlanta and the world, but perhaps one of its most lasting achievements is to challenge, encourage and educate young people to become ethical leaders in a global world.

Andrew Young Presents Documentary Series
  • Four documentary specials were produced and syndicated nationally in 2010:  Crossing in St. Augustine; Fountain of Freedom; Change in the Wind and What’s Happenin’ Now.  Georgia Public Broadcasting rebroadcast the first two seasons of eight documentaries on its statewide network.
  • Andrew Young Presents was awarded three Emmys from National Academy of Television Arts-Southeast, as well as seven Telly awards
  • Film Festivals in Brazil, Nigeria and Atlanta featured documentaries from Andrew Young Presents.
  • Special documentary screenings and panel discussions were held in partnership with a number of institutions, reaching thousands of viewers, including: the Martin Luther King Center for Nonviolent Social Change, the Woodruff Arts Center, the Buckhead Theater, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, Flagler College

Developing Leaders for a Public Purpose
  • Annual series of public leadership forums and a class on Social and Political Change launched in partnership with the Leadership Center at Morehouse College in the Fall Semester
  • Four forums highlighting the contributions of Atlanta leaders Dr. Benjamin Mays; Dr. Martin Luther King,Jr.; Mayor Maynard Jackson and Ambassador Andrew Young were attended by over 1000 business; community, non-profit and civic leaders, as well as students
  • Multi-media artwork was commissioned for the Jean Childs Young Middle School to honor Jean Childs Young and convey to students, staff and visitors her spirit and legacy.

The Atlanta Project
  • Atlanta leaders evolved an important political, cultural and economic model for cities around the U.S. and the world, often called the “Atlanta Way.”  Research and interviews for the book and documentary project have begun on this important initiative.
